Wendy watched as Josephine the assistant producer ranted about her date the night before. She looked at her watch,it said "10.23am Tue"
She sighed with relief because she had no interviews today, she only had to finish up her paperwork and she could go home and/or enjoy her 20% raise that was waiting for her in her bank account...
"Just because my mother was a bitch does NOT mean i have to turn out to be one" Jules Knight's Voice kept ringing in her head from her latest interview. The lady was so soft spoken, her voice felt like candy floss in her ears. Her caramel skin was incomprehendably perfect and she had hazel eyes that hugged your soul and her well kept afro looked like it had an amazing texture. For someone to say she was extremely beautiful would be an understatement.
Wendy had been to the Knight's Hotel before on many occasions because the annual networking conferences were held there but she had never met the owner, Miss Jules Knight, until she was booked to interview her.
"I believe that factors like your surrounding and your upbringing affect your personality as a full grown adult but only to a very limited extent. You see i also STRONGLY believe you can make your own- finish that sentence with anything you'd like. Don't be promiscuous and tell me its 'cause Daddy left you or Momma never said a kind word. I'm living proof that you can survive a broken or twisted background"
As Jules spoke, Wendy tried not to get too inTo her guest's speech for the sake of her viewers so she nodded and inserted "mmmm"s and "uh huh" at the right places
"My dad was an alcoholic, always broke and never had anything to offer me or my brothers and sisters. I have four siblings. Momma had to do all the work and that turned her into a bitch- we could argue all day about whether or not she was justified but I would say she's not the only single mother with five children to ever exist on the face of the earth. I learnt to be satisfied with what I had and smiled at every adversity."
"Where are your siblings now?" Wendy interupted curiously
Jules smiled a little...
"I don't know where three of them are but my youngest sibling lives with me. I guess they all turned bitter in someway. You know my dad once said to me 'I never wanted you, YOU were a mistake' and then he hit me"
Wendy gasped ...louder than her subconscious intended...
Jules laughed
"Oh don't worry,he apologised. My point is, I've been through what most people would call bad but I always had the gift of seeing the positive in everything. Instead of being bitter and hating men and not trusting friends- I embrace the goodness that life has to offer. You can't let your past or your family background define you. You should have bigger fish to fry, you can't dwell on past battles anymore- it's a waste of time...and life, that's why its called the past."
Wendy had a question she had been wanting to ask,she decided she would keep it in and measure the level of stupidity that dwells in the query for now.
" I think that people should shut the hell up and stop blaming stuff on their past or parents...."
She finally summoned the courage...
"Miss Knight, do you think those who do bad things to other people, eg rape, decide within themselves to do it to avenge something that happened in their past?" She crossed her fingers hoping her guest would not say her question was daft.
Jules frowned
'Crap' she thought...
"Well" her guest finally began "that's a valid question, I think that rapists are people with roasted up brains so I make no apologies if I become very crude with my choice of words...some people develop weird fetishes and that desire manifests itself with forceful actions, some people were victims before I guess- are they justified?hell no. This is why I say just 'cause it happened to you does not mean you have to make people go through the same hell...and that statement applies to anything not just rape. I mean just because my mother was a bitch does NOT mean I have to turn out to be one, life is not supposed to be like that"
As she sat at her desk, she thought about that interview and sighed. 'I need to get a grip' she thought. Memories from her early years threatened to seep in but she had a lot to get done in the next few hours.
She opened the first drawer on her right to retrieve the tapes from the previous week and she saw a note lying on the row of plastic cases. She looked around and wondered how it had gotten there..she opened it
"Hey Miss Gorgeous, when are you gonna call me and ask me out on a date, you know I know you want me
Em Grass"
In loving memory of Jules Knight- you'll ALWAYS be remembered, I love you
